~New moon, new camera

The new moon was gorgeous. I really wanted to photograph it while it was rising but that was during choretime and I couldn't take the time. So, this is what I ended up with using the "night" setting on the new camera. I could not shoot directly at the moon or I had a streak of what looked like lightening to the moon (below)

I have much to learn but I was so happy to get photos of the moon that really look like the moon :)
Have a great day!

You might try using a simple tripod. Not sure it that would help, but would be fun to experiment.

Moon shots are tough. I took some with my new camera a couple of nights ago. I set my shutter speed to 1/1000, let the camera set the aperature (auto), and zoomed in on the moon. Even though handheld, I got some pretty nice photos of the moon in which the craters and surface were clear. Most shots end up over-exposed because although it's dark outside, the moon is reflecting sunlight.

WOW! That was neat! I wonder what the streak was, not something we can see with our eye?

I love the gorgeous art along the side of your blog. How do you fancy-types do that?

threecollie,
thanks :) I was so happy that it looked like the moon.

thecrazysheeplady,
I'm looking for a tripod now. Can't wait to try it :)

joanna,
thanks :) I will!

candy,
My family gave me a Canon Rebel for christmas :)

dp,
Your moon shots are incredible!! I have so much to learn and can only hope to get a shot like that someday. If I do not, it won't be the fault of the camera. Thanks for visiting - hope to see you again.

linda,
I'm sure the streak had something to do with the flash and the camera speed and the fact that it was dark. I have a lot to learn :)

michelle,
Thank you :) the wallpaper comes from www.TheCutestBlogonTheBlock.com
hundreds to choose from and they are free!

Deb, when I try to go to www.TheCutestBlogonTheBlock.com, it tells me I need to log in with a name and password. I don't have an account with them, so when I enter a name and password, it tells me it isn't valid. Help!

Night shots are the hardest I think. But I do like that streak....looks kind of cool. I have to use a tripod at night and even then I usually don't like the results.
