What a neat chicken house! I need to clean mine out. The saw dust makes it look soft and clean.

I love the cats! And I really like the smiles on the kids!

You live in such a neat place.

you still have all that snow? Weatherman is calling for snow tonight and tomorrow but it's fair at the moment.

Deb, I love your photos, especially the barn cats! I came here from Claire's site at Whispering Acres. Since I'm an urban apt. dweller with only Emma for "livestock", I have to live vicariously through the wonderful farm blogs! Maine is a great state - I haven't been there in almost 45 years.

Love the pictures, especially the cats. But I'm partial to cats over any other animal. Maybe you'll have the spring that in June.

That last one of the chickens is hilarious. Great photos as usual.

Ha, ha, ha...that last picture is *wonderful*!! It looks like those hens are PACING, looking for a place to nest...poor ladies! :-)

I have so many questions...are the guineas in a seperate house from the chickens? I love the chicken boxes...so simple yet effective. That's what I'll have my husband build me. It seems to be a fairly large space...is it heated? I have a problem with the floor freezing, but I also get -40 and -50 temperatures. We are going to insulate the floor this year so I can clean it out. Up here we just layer and have a foot of nasty in the spring. I want to keep it thawed. Love your photos.

Stumbled across your site just by accident. Love it! The pics are wonderful. Its also kind of nice to see I'm not the only one with tons of snow on the ground.

Christy,
Thanks :)

Linda,
Thank you. The cats are my barn cats. The multi-colored is my "Mama" cat and she has been here for years.

Joanna,
Yes - we still have all that snow. It's been getting just warm enough during the day to do a little melting so now we have muddy roadways. Not so pretty now :(

Candy,
Thank you :)

Pam,
The kitties were quite happy to pose the other night after they had their dinner :)

Tammy,
I didn't see the "perch" theme until you mentioned it :)

Mom L,
Thanks so much for visiting! Emma is a beautiful kitty cat :) Please stop in again.

Cathy M,
I don't have a house cat right now but I do love my barn kitties. Your right - spring may arrive here by June :)

Egghead,
Thank you :)

Farmgirl dk,
They get so impatient.....there really is plenty of room for everyone :)

Gayle,
I'm happy to answer your questions. The guineas do live in a seperate house from the chickens. I do have three guineas that were raised with this batch of chickens that do live with them. I'm trying to integrate them with the other guineas but they aren't movin' out of the hen house :)
Our hen house is not heated but two sides of it are all windows. It gets sun in the morning and then again in the afternoon. We do not get as cold as you do. It's not insulated either. I do run a 60watt light bulb a few hours in the morning and late afternoon when it's below zero for days at a time, and the days are really short. My Deleware chickens thrive in the winter. That's the reason I have them. They will lay everyday regardless of how cold or damp and gray it is. We try to clean it out every couple of weeks. If it freezes solid under the roost poles I just add fresh bedding and clean it out when it thaws. I makes sure we never let it build up so you can smell ammonia and I always keep a window open a tiny bit for ventilation. Good luck!

Sue,
Thank you :) So glad you found us. Hope you visit often.
We do have snow in common for sure :) They are predicting 40's for this weekend....a SLOW thaw would be nice.

Mama,
Thank you :) and thanks for visiting.... please come back again.
